Mommy Makeover

Cosmetic Surgical Procedure

With life style changes, many women wish to regain their pre-pregnancy appearance after their final pregnancy.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgical procedures that are done together to improve post pregnancy appearance. Combining these offer advantages such as placing breast implants with no chest scar through the tummy tuck incision. Other common areas are the thighs and upper arms.

Breast Options

These include breast augmentation, breast lift and breast reduction.

Abdominal Options

These include full or limited abdominoplasty and liposuctions depending upon how much excess skin, fat and muscle looseness are present.

Thigh and Arm Options

These include liposuction and surgical lifts depending upon the amount of excess skin and fat.

Can I Have a Gynecologic Procedure at the Same Time?

As described above the options vary. You may well have a new born in the house in which case some extra help will be necessary.

What is the Recovery Like?

How Long Should I Wait After my Pregnancy?

Most women wait for at least six months after they stop breastfeeding. If you're not breastfeeding, you should wait six months for lifestyle and hormonal reasons.

Arm Lift and Liposuction

Due to age, genetics or weight changes the upper arms can lose their definition due to excess fat or sagging skin. Depending on the skin and fat excess, options include liposuction only, liposuction with small incision in the armpit and liposuction with a vertical incision on the inside of the upper arm.

Consultation

At the consultation, these options will be explained in detail by Dr. Gewirtz. An arm lift is not a substitute for weight loss.  Depending on which procedure is chosen, recovery can last from one to six weeks. Compression garments will need to be worn for six weeks to reduce swelling.

Where is the Surgery Performed?

Liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation and arm lifts require general anesthesia. It is done either at the surgical center or outpatient at the hospital.

Are There Scars?

These vary from very small incisions for liposuction to a small incision in the armpit to a longer incision along the inner arm. Surgical technique and postoperative skin care are used to minimize the scars.

Thigh Lift and Liposuction

Due to age, genetics and weight change the inner and outer thighs can have localized fat deposits and loose skin. The goal is to regain your desired body contour. It is not a substitute for weight loss or exercise.

Inner (Medial) Thigh Lift

The inner thighs can have localized fat deposits but can also have excess, sagging skin. If there is only fat, liposuction alone through small incisions is possible. Often, there is a skin excess which requires skin tightening through a small incision in the groin or if marked, a vertical incision on the inner thigh.

Outer (Lateral) Thigh Lift

The outer thighs more commonly have a fat excess with less skin sagging. For this reason, liposuction only without lift is usually done on the outer thighs. The incision for outer thigh lift is less easily hidden and limited to people who have had massive weight loss.

Recovery

If you only have liposuction you can return to work in several days wearing a support garment for six weeks. A thigh lift with incisions will mean two weeks off work and six weeks avoiding strenuous exercise.
